Dropper posts have come a long way in the last few years, in particular with regards to durability. It’s one of those components that gets little in the way of love, yet is expected to perform flawlessly ride after ride. With its sealed design and self-resetting hydraulics, the Turnon Bunker is attempting to push longevity to the next level, and based on our testing so far, it seems that it is working. Aside from the durability aspect, the Bunker also offers great ergonomics and a bit of extra “suspension” action during violent compressions, which can add a little comfort to your ride. All in all, the Bunker is one of those products that comes a bit out of left field but makes a lot of sense once you’re out on the trail.

What makes the Bunker special? Most dropper posts have two holes at the bottom to allow air to bleed when the post is compressed, and then suck it up when the post is extended. Turnon claims this design is problematic for two reasons: when the post is compressed, grease can leak out of the holes and when the post is extended it can suck moisture and debris into the unit. They claim to have solved this issue with a dual air chamber design. The air circulated expelled during compression is held within the second air chamber, as opposed to escaping via holes at the bottom.

The Loam Wolf
One aspect that pushes the Bunker’s life is that it is a fully sealed dropper post. Dropper posts typically have two holes on the bottom, allowing air to exit the chamber as the post is compressed. Turnon claims that things you don’t want leaving the dropper post can also exit with this air, such as grease. While a dropper post is relatively protected inside the seat tube, moisture and debris can be pulled back into the post when extended. Turnon uses a dual air chamber system to replace these holes, fully sealing the bottom of the post. At the top, Turnon uses what they call the “best dust cover” available for a dropper post, while remaining low-friction. Ultimately, this is why Turnon Components can call their dropper waterproof.

There are not many new brands that make such a good first impression but the Turnon Components Bunker dropper post has done just that. A fully sealed unit featuring unique patent-pending internals and super tough wiper seals that protect against the foulest weather conditions, combined with a lightweight CNC machined buttery smooth remote lever, makes it a serious contender for the top of the dropper charts.
